A layered lighting scheme for a super-tall landmark tower, giving the base, shaft, and crown distinct character across the skyline.
Background
The owner wanted this 300-meter landmark tower to stand apart from neighboring buildings at night, while keeping energy use and long-term maintenance costs in check — avoiding the glare and high power draw of traditional floodlighting.
Our Approach
The design team split the tower into base, shaft, and crown, applying wall-washers, contour lighting, and pattern projection to each tier, then tied everything into a smart control system with one-tap switching between daily, holiday, and special-event lighting modes.
Results
- Roughly 30% lower energy use compared to a traditional floodlighting approach
- The illuminated crown has become a defining feature of the city skyline
- Lighting modes can be switched remotely for major events, with no on-site crew needed
